Set up a family or group membership
The Group membership option turns one membership tier into a group tier: a buyer purchases once and fills in the name of every person the membership covers. This article shows how to turn the option on for a tier, what buyers see, and how to see who is in each group after the purchase. For the buyer's point of view, see Buy a family or group membership.
Turn on Group membership for a tier
You do this in the membership form editor, on a tier you have already created. For the full form setup, see Creating and configuring your membership form.
Open your membership form in edit mode and go to the tier you want to turn into a group tier.
In Membership options, which sits under the TICKET TYPE group between Pay what you can and Category(ies), turn on the Group membership toggle.
In the Up to [N] members input that appears on the same row, set the maximum number of members the group tier covers.
Check the buyer preview on the right: it shows the group line under the tier price.
Choose the price, validity period, and renewal settings for the tier as you would for any membership tier. For how those renewal settings work, see Everything there is to know about monthly or yearly membership renewals.
See who is in each group after the purchase
Every member of a group purchase is recorded on their own contact, so you can find them from the payment, from the buyer's profile, and from each member's profile.
In the payment drawer
Open the payment from your dashboard. The Membership purchased block shows a Members list under the tier line:
Each member is a link to their contact.
A member who gave an email shows as Name (email); a member without an email shows the name only.
When the purchase covers several members, the documents list shows Member cards. For what those cards contain, see Generating membership cards.
On the buyer's contact card
Open the buyer's contact drawer. Their membership card shows a Group members row listing every member of the group as links. This row appears only for group tiers. When the contact viewing it is not the person who paid, a Buyer row links to the contact who paid.
On a member's timeline
A member who did not buy the membership themselves gets a timeline entry showing they received the membership from the buyer, and naming the campaign it came from.
Households
Every member of a group membership joins the same household automatically. No household row is added to the membership card: the existing household display in the contact card stays as is. To learn how households work, see Organize contacts into companies and households.
