View your member insights report
The member insights report shows how your memberships grow, renew, and lapse, across all of your membership campaigns. Open it from Contacts > Members, from a membership campaign's Member list, or from the campaign Overview.
Open the report
All three entrypoints open the same report, so start wherever you already are:
From your contacts: Go to Contacts > Members and click "View insights".
From a campaign's member list: On the Member list tab of your membership campaign, click "View all-membership insights", to the left of "Export".
From the campaign overview: On the Overview tab of your membership campaign, click "View all-membership insights" in the header of the "Membership breakdown" card.
The report always covers every membership in your organization, not just the campaign you opened it from. That is what the "all-membership" wording on the campaign buttons means: there is no per-campaign filter.
Choose monthly or yearly
The report opens on Monthly, which shows the last 12 months. Switch to Yearly with the Monthly/Yearly picker at the top of the report to see the last 5 years. The picker applies to all three tabs at once: Overview, Members, and Recurring donors.
Read the Overview tab
The first row shows the big picture, and the Member alerts block tells you who needs attention.
Total members and auto-renew
The Total members card counts all members who are active or expiring soon. The graph in the card splits that total between auto-renew and non-auto-renew members.
Click Total members to open your members list filtered on active and expiring soon.
Click Auto-renew to open the members list filtered on auto-renew members who are active or expiring soon.
Hover a point on the graph to see the exact numbers: the tooltip shows Non-auto-renew members and Auto-renew members, then a Total row. Its title is the period you hover: the month and year in Monthly (for example "May 2026"), or in Yearly with a custom year cycle, the first day of that cycle (for example "September 1st 2025").
Member alerts
The Member alerts block has three tabs, each with its count in the label:
Recent members: all active members, sorted by join date.
Lapsed recently: members who lapsed in the last 30 days.
Expiring soon: members whose membership is in the expiring soon status.
Each tab shows the last 6 members of its group. Click a member's name to open their contact record, or click the email icon to open a new email to that member. Click See all to open the member list filtered the same way as the tab you are on; the button's wording matches the tab. Counts stay visible even when they are zero, for example "Lapsed recently (0)", and an empty state appears when a group has no members.
How the graphs count members
The graphs use the definitions below, so the report matches the way you count memberships without rebuilding it in a spreadsheet.
Member growth breakdown: how your membership base moved over each period.
New: members who joined over the period.
Renewed: members who renewed their membership over the period.
Still active: members whose membership was already active in the last period and was still active on this period too.
Lapsed: people who were members but lapsed over the period. Lapsed is drawn below the zero line; the other three stay above it.
The tooltip Total is New + Renewed + Still active, minus Lapsed.
Fund raised by membership tier: the funds your memberships raised, broken down by tier.
Member answers breakdown: how members answered your custom questions. Pick the question you want to see with the picker in the card.
When a graph has too many legends to fit, the extra ones are grouped as "X others" in grey. This applies to the Fund raised by membership tier and Member answers breakdown graphs.
Set your year cycle
If your membership year does not run from January to December, you can group the yearly charts on your own cycle.
By default the year cycle is January to December and the report asks you nothing. If at least one of your yearly membership tiers uses a custom expiration date, the "Set your own year cycle" modal opens the first time you open the yearly report, with the cycle that matches your custom expiration date already selected. Choose Skip or Save; either one closes the question for good. The modal appears once per organization, not once per admin.
To change the cycle later, open the 3-dot menu at the top right of the report, next to the Monthly/Yearly toggle, and click "Edit year cycle (Sep. to Aug.)". The menu shows your current cycle in brackets. In organization settings, the same setting is called "Insights year cycle".
When the cycle is not January to December, the yearly charts reflect it:
On the total members chart, each point is labelled with the start of the cycle, for example "Sep. 2023", and the last label stays "Today".
On the other graphs, the yearly axis shows both years, for example "2024/25", and the hover tooltip shows the full range, for example "Sep. 2025 to Aug. 2026".
Small member lists and new accounts
The report adapts to organizations with only a few members: the y-axis scales to your data instead of jumping to large round numbers, and the monthly view shows only the months that have data.
If your organization has no membership or recurring donation campaign yet, the Members and Recurring donors tabs still appear, with a preview of the report you would get. From there, click "Create my membership campaign" on the Members tab or "Create a donation campaign" on the Recurring donors tab.
