Creating "Pay What You Can" (PWYC) or Sliding Scale Pricing on Zeffy

Zeffy allows you to offer Pay-What-You-Can (PWYC) or sliding scale pricing across your forms  – whether you're selling event tickets, memberships, or shop items.

This flexible pricing model lets your supporters choose how much they want to pay, while giving you the option to suggest or enforce a price range.

How to Enable PWYC / Sliding Scale Pricing

• Log-in to your dashboard on a desktop.

• Go to Campaigns and click on edit to the right of your event form. 

• Go to the step named "Tickets."

  • Tickets (for event forms)

  • Items (for shop forms)

  • Membership rates (for membership forms)

• There, you will be able to see a list of your tickets. Click on "options" below the item or ticket you want to offer as PWYC.

• Enable the Pay-What-You-Can toggle. on "Options" on the ticket you want offered as a PWYC ticket. 

Optional Configuration

If you'd like, you can configure additional rules for your PWCY pricing. 

• Suggested Price – You can set a suggested price that appears as a recommended amount on your form. This helps guide buyers by showing the typical value of the ticket, item, or membership. Buyers still have full flexibility to enter any amount they choose.
  

• Minimum Price – You can also set a minimum price, which ensures buyers cannot enter an amount below this threshold. 

• If a buyer selects multiple tickets or items, the minimum price applies per unit. For example, if the minimum price is $10 and the buyer selects 2 tickets, they will be required to pay at least $20 in total.

You can choose to leave both fields blank, set only a suggested price, set only a minimum price, or use both together.

If both are set, the suggested price will appear in the payment field by default, but the minimum price will still be enforced and  buyers won't be able to enter an amount below it.

Discount Codes and PWYC Tickets

If all tickets in an event campaign are set to Pay What You Can, discount codes will not be available in the campaign editor. This is because PWYC pricing already gives buyers full control over the amount they pay.

If you want to use discount codes for your event, make sure at least one ticket type has a fixed price rather than PWYC pricing.

Live on Your Form

Once enabled, the item will appear as a PWYC or sliding scale option on your public form. Buyers will be able to enter the amount they'd like to pay at checkout.
