ID Verification: Requirements, Setup, and Troubleshooting
As part of your Stripe verification, an authorized representative of your organization must complete an identity verification. This involves uploading a photo of a government-issued ID and taking a selfie for comparison.
This verification can be completed by any legal representative of your organization—a board member, authorized signatory on your bank account, treasurer, or executive director.

ID Requirements
Before uploading, ensure your ID meets these criteria:
The ID is a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID (driver's license, passport, or provincial/state ID)
The information on the ID matches exactly what you entered for the account representative in Zeffy
The ID is not redacted, altered, or damaged
Tips for Successful ID Upload
If your ID is not being accepted, try these recommendations:
Capture a clear image. Make sure images are not too dark or bright, and avoid glare. Hold steady and allow your camera to focus to prevent blur.
Take a live photo with your mobile device instead of uploading a scan. Live photos have a higher success rate than uploaded files.
Capture the ID against a dark background. Light, colorful, or patterned backgrounds can interfere with the system's ability to read the ID.
Lay the ID flat. Do not block any part of the ID document in the image.
Use ambient lighting. Avoid strong overhead lights that cast shadows, and avoid sitting directly in front of a bright light that creates glare.
Enter information exactly as it appears on your ID. Include all middle names as listed—any discrepancy will cause rejection.
Use the correct file format. If uploading an image file, it must be in PNG or JPG format.
Pro tip: Mobile device cameras typically take higher quality photos than webcams, which improves legibility and success rates.
Tips for Successful Selfie Verification
If you're experiencing issues with your selfie, check the following:
Grant camera permissions. Make sure your device has permission to access your camera or webcam.
Don't block your face. Remove sunglasses, masks, hats, or other accessories. Ensure your finger isn't partially blocking the camera lens.
Use ambient lighting. Avoid strong overhead lights that cast shadows on your face, and avoid sitting directly in front of a bright light that washes out your features.
Still Not Working?
If you've followed all the tips above and your ID or selfie is still being rejected:
Log out of your Zeffy account
Clear your browser cache
Try a different browser — Chrome is the most compatible. If you're using a different browser, switch to Chrome and disable any browser extensions.
Try uploading your photo again
Changing Your Representative
You can change the person listed as your account representative at any time. Go to your Settings (click your name in the bottom left corner) → select Bank identity → click Edit next to the representative's information.
