Why do I need to provide my personal information to fundraise with Zeffy?
To accept payments on Zeffy, you must complete an identity verification process. This process requires you to provide personal information, including:
Government-issued ID: We ask for a photo of the front and back of a government-issued ID to verify the identity of a representative of your account. This allows Stripe to confirm that the account is owned and managed by a real, authorized individual.
Live selfie for comparison: Stripe also requires a live image of the person completing the verification. This allows Stripe to confirm that the ID uploaded belongs to you and is not a stolen ID from someone else.
Social Security Number (SSN): For U.S. users / accounts, Stripe requires an SSN as part of the identity verification process. This requirement applies to all Stripe users in the United States, not just Zeffy users. The SSN is used solely for identity verification purposes and has no other ramifications. This requirement is imposed directly by Stripe, not by Zeffy. It allows Stripe to confirm that the account is owned and managed by a real, authorized individual. You can read more about this requirement here.
This verification can be completed by any legal representative of the organization, such as a board member, authorized signatory on your bank account, or treasurer.
Why We Need Your Information
This information is necessary because Zeffy uses Stripe Custom Connect, which holds Zeffy responsible for all activity on the platform. We need to ensure that every account is owned by a legitimate person and organization.
