Tap to Pay buyer information
Tap to Pay is designed for fast, in-person transactions. Unlike online payment forms, Tap to Pay does not require buyer information at checkout—you can accept payments immediately without collecting name, email, or address.
How buyer information works with Tap to Pay
The Tap to Pay app is built for speed. When you process a payment:
No information is required — you can accept a payment without entering any buyer details.
Receipts are optional — after the payment, you can ask the buyer if they want a receipt.
If they want a receipt — you can enter their first name, last name, email, and address if needed.
What is not collected
Tap to Pay does not collect answers to custom questions or other form fields that appear on online payment forms. This is expected behavior—the app is optimized for rapid in-person payments, not detailed data collection.
What happens when a payment has no buyer information
If you process a Tap to Pay payment without entering buyer details:
In Payments: The buyer name will appear blank.
In notification emails: The email will show "null, null" as the buyer name because no values were recorded.
Add or update buyer information after a Tap to Pay payment
If you need to add buyer information to a payment that was processed without details:
Go to Payments.
Click on the payment to open the details panel.
Click the pencil icon to edit the buyer information.
Add the name, email, and address as needed.
This workflow applies specifically to payments where no buyer information was recorded. If a payment already has buyer details recorded, those fields may be locked. For more information on correcting existing donor information, see Update or correct donor information after a payment.
