Tap-to-Pay App

Tap to Pay buyer information

After a successful Tap to Pay payment, you can request a receipt so the app collects the buyer’s name or email. Zeffy does not store buyer or card information for that payment unless a receipt is requested.

Request a receipt after payment

When the payment succeeds, use the receipt option that appears so the buyer can enter their details and receive confirmation by email.

  1. Complete the Tap to Pay payment on your phone.

  2. When payment succeeds, choose the option to request a receipt.

  3. Have the buyer enter the contact details shown (name and/or email).

This post-payment receipt flow is what you see on donation payments and other campaigns where tax receipts are enabled. The confirmation email can include the payment receipt and, when configured, a tax receipt. For what that email contains and how to resend it later, see Transaction and payment receipts in Zeffy.

Collect buyer name and email when the receipt option does not appear

For ticket payments, or any campaign where tax receipts are not enabled, turn on buyer details in the campaign’s Preferences in the Tap to Pay app so name and email are requested by default.

  1. Open the Tap to Pay app.

  2. Select the campaign you will accept payments on.

  3. Open Preferences at the top of the page.

  4. Enable full name and email.

Tap to Pay campaign Preferences with full name and email enabled

Those fields then collect buyer information by default on purchases that are not eligible for a tax receipt. Without them enabled, you may not see the post-payment receipt option on those campaigns.

What Tap to Pay can collect

Depending on the campaign and your Preferences, the app can present:

  • Buyer information — name, email, and address used for receipts and tax receipts

  • Additional questions — custom questions configured on the form

  • Receipt information — details needed to generate the payment receipt

You can still complete a payment without entering buyer details when those fields are not required. If no buyer details are entered, the payment is still recorded.

What happens when a payment has no buyer information

If you process a Tap to Pay payment without entering buyer details:

  • In Payments: the buyer name appears blank.

  • In notification emails: the buyer name shows as “null, null” because no values were recorded.

Without a requested receipt (buyer name or email), Zeffy does not store buyer or card information for that payment, so you cannot look up the payer later from Zeffy alone.

Add or update buyer information after a Tap to Pay payment

If buyer details were never collected and you obtain them later, add them from Payments:

  1. Go to Payments.

  2. Open the payment details panel.

  3. Click the pencil icon.

  4. Add the name, email, and address as needed.

This edit path applies when no buyer information was recorded. If a payment already has buyer details, those fields may be locked. To correct existing donor information, see Update or correct donor information after a payment.

For device requirements and how to accept a payment in the app, see App: Setting Up Zeffy Tap to Pay. For donation tax receipts on the form itself, see Automatic tax receipts for donations.
