More information about Canada's extended deadline for making donations eligible for the 2024 tax year
On December 30th, 2024, it was announced that the federal government intends to amend the Income Tax Act to extend the deadline for making donations eligible for tax support in the 2024 tax year to February 28, 2025.
To address questions about this announcement, here are the resources to explain how this announcement will be handled within Zeffy.
End-of-Year Tax Receipt Resends
Zeffy will resend all tax receipts issued during the previous year to donors to ensure they have copies for their records. This email will be sent at the end of January 2025.

What’s included: Only 2024 tax receipts will be included in this annual resend.

What’s not included: Receipts for donations made in January or February 2025 will not be part of this email.
January and February 2025 Tax Receipts
For one-time donations made after December 31, 2024, donors will receive a receipt immediately after completing their transaction. If donors wish to declare these donations on their 2024 taxes, they can download the 2025 receipts directly from their confirmation email or their Zeffy donor account.

If you’d like to claim early 2025 donations on your 2024 taxes, download the receipt from your confirmation email. If you cannot locate it, reach out to the nonprofit you supported, or login to your Zeffy donor account to retrieve the link to the tax receipt issued.

Monthly donations
Receipts for monthly donations made in January and February 2025 will be included in the cumulative receipt issued at the end of 2025. If donors wish to declare these two months of donations on their 2024 taxes, they will need to request a manual adjustment of their receipts.

If you’d like immediate receipts for January and February donations made within a monthly donation schedule, please contact the nonprofit directly.
➡️ As a non-profit:
If a donor requests receipts for the first two months of 2025, you can manually issue a receipt for the first two donations of 2025 for them.

Note that at the end of 2025, the cumulative receipt we automatically issue will still include all 12 months. If you’ve manually issued receipts for January and February, you will need to cancel the cumulative receipt and reissue it for the remaining 10 months.
