How to Offer Member-Specific Discounts on Zeffy

Zeffy provides several methods to create member-specific pricing that helps you provide special rates while maintaining control over who can access them.

Method 1: Discount Codes for Members 

Setting Up a Member Discount Codes for All Members:

This method will allow you to set up a code which all of your members can use. This is a great way to offer member-specific discounts is by creating discount codes that you share exclusively with your members. 

  1. Log into your Zeffy dashboard on a computer
  2. Go to Fundraising > Campaigns, then click "Edit" on your existing form or create a new event form
  3. Click "Discount codes" in the left sidebar, then "Add discount code"
  4. Enter a code name (e.g., "MEMBER2025" or "VIPACCESS")
  5. Choose percentage or dollar amount discount to be applied
  6. Set a usage limit if needed (e.g., limit to the number of active members)
  7. Click "Save" to apply your changes

Setting Up a Member Discount Codes for Specific Members:

This method will allow you to set up a code specifically for one member. This is a great way to offer member-specific discounts is by creating discount codes that you share exclusively with your members. 

  1. Log into your Zeffy dashboard on a computer
  2. Go to Fundraising > Campaigns, then click "Edit" on your existing form or create a new event form
  3. Click "Discount codes" in the left sidebar, then "Add discount code"
  4. Enter a code name specific to your member (e.g., "JANE2025" or "JOHNDISCOUNT25")
  5. Choose percentage or dollar amount discount to be applied
  6. Set a usage limit if needed (e.g., limit to only 1 usage if this code should only be able to be used once by one specific member)
  7. Click "Save" to apply your changes

Sharing Codes with Members:

  • Email the discount code directly to current members
  • Include codes in membership confirmation emails - you can read how to edit a confirmation here here
  • Add codes to membership cards or welcome packets
  • Share through member-only newsletters or communications

⚠️ Important Notes:

  • Discount codes are case-sensitive
  • Only one discount code can be used per purchase
  • Keep codes confidential to maintain exclusivity

Tracking Member Discount Usage:

Monitor who uses your member discounts in two ways:

  1. View individual transactions:

    • Go to Fundraising > Payments
    • Click on a specific transaction to see which discount code was used

2. Export payment data:

Method 2: Member-Only Pricing Tiers

For events and tickets, you can create special member pricing tiers alongside regular pricing.

⚠️ Limitation: Zeffy cannot automatically distinguish between members and non-members during purchase, so non-members could potentially select member rates.

Creating Member Rate Tickets:

  1. Create a separate ticket type labeled "Member Rate" or "Member Pricing"
  2. Set the discounted price for this ticket type
  3. Go to the the 'Questions' section in the left hand navigation pane to add a verification questions to minimize non-member access:
  4. Select 'Add a custom question' to get started
    1. Add a required checkbox question asking: "I confirm that I am an active member of [Organization Name]" or a required
    2. Add a required short answer asking for a membership number

Pro Tips for Member Discounts:

  • Use clear naming: Make discount codes memorable but not easily guessable
  • Set expiration dates: Create urgency with time-limited member offers
  • Track effectiveness: Monitor usage to understand member engagement
  • Communicate value: Clearly explain the member benefit in your messaging
  • Consider tiers: Offer different discount levels for different membership types
