My donor made a payment with the wrong name/email – how do I fix it?

Steps to correct the donor's information for future communication

If your donor made a typo in their email address or name, don’t worry! You can easily correct the information for future communication. Here’s how to handle both scenarios:

Correcting a donor's email address:

If your donor made a typo in their email address, you can resend their payment confirmation to the correct email and update the email address for future commuications.

  1. Log into your Zeffy account.
  2. Navigate to "Payments" on the left-hand side.
  3. Use the search bar to find the transaction by searching for the donor's name or email.
  4. Click on the transaction in question. 
  5. A window will appear on the right-hand side of the screen.
  6. In the top right corner of the window, click "More".
  7. From the dropdown menu, select "Resend the receipt".
  8. Enter the correct email address to resend the confirmation.

Additionally, you can update the email address of the contact for future communication:

  1. Go to "Contacts" on the left-hand side of the dashboard.
  2. Use the search bar to find the contact by searching the donor's name.
  3. Click on the contact to open their donor profile.
  4. Update the email address on their contact page to ensure future communications are sent to the correct address.

Correcting a donor's name:

If the donor made a typo in their name, follow these steps:

  1. Go to "Contacts" on the left-hand side.
  2. Search for the donor’s contact.
  3. Click on the contact to open their profile.
  4. Update the name in the contact’s donor profile

⚠️ Note: The email address and name associated with the payment cannot be changed, as the payment has been recorded with those original details in Stripe. We must keep those records consistent.
