How to import contact information into Zeffy
It is possible to import existing contact data into Zeffy such as donor name, email, phone number, address and preferred language. Additional notes and tags can also be imported using the import file function.
To begin a contact import:
1. Login to your Zeffy account and go to "Contacts"
2. In the upper right hand corner, select "Add contact" and select "Import"
3. On the import page, select "Contact" under "What would you like to import?" You will then see the option to import by linking your Gmail or Mailchimp, or using an import file.
To import Gmail contacts
1. Select the "Link Gmail Contacts" option
2. Login to your Gmail account and approve Zeffy's request for access to contact data by selecting "Allow"
3. You will be brought back to the import screen. A green notice will appear at the bottom of your screen, indicating the import of your Gmail contacts was successful. The Contact import will appear as "Processing" under Import history:
4. Once the import is completed successfully, all contacts imported from Gmail will be tagged "gmail import." You can use the tag to build your emailing list.
This is a one-time authorization to import Gmail contacts. If more contacts are added to your Gmail list, you will have to initiate another import using a different import method. The Gmail import option will not appear again once it has been used.
Initiating another import will not cause duplicates - the main identifier of a contact in Zeffy is the email address, so if the same email is imported again, the system will count it as a single contact.
To undo this import, select "Delete" next to the import line. Even if you delete the import, the Gmail import option will not appear again once it has been used.
To import Mailchimp contacts
1. Select the "Link Mailchimp Contacts" option
2. Login to your Mailchimp account and approve Zeffy's request for access to contact data by selecting "Allow"
3. You will be brought back to the import screen. A green notice will appear at the bottom of your screen, indicating the import of your Mailchimp contacts was successful. The Contact import will appear as "Processing" under Import history.
4. Once the import is completed successfully, all contacts imported from Mailchimp will be tagged "mailchimp import." You can use the tag to build your emailing list.

Import contacts using an import file
When selecting the "Import a file" option, you will have the option to "Upload a file" or to "Manually enter data"
Upload file
When selecting the option to upload a file, please make sure the file you upload complies with our Contact Import Template. Please do not modify the column titles and read through the article linked to format the data properly to add it into Zeffy.
Manually enter data
When selecting the option to manually enter data, you will get access to our embedded workbook. The columns with a "*" require a data entry, the rest are optional.
While the contact email is not mandatory information, please note that the email is the primary identifier of a contact in our system. If a contact is added without an email and they later complete a transaction with an email through a Zeffy form, there will be a duplicate record for this contact. If the system detects a contact with the email address as an existing contact, all the data will appear on the same contact page.
The workbook will indicate errors in red if it is not formatted properly.
To upload the data, select the "Submit" button in the top right hand corner.
Once the import is complete, you will be redirected to the Contact tab. A green notice confirming the import was successfully completed should appear.
